Ok, so we were home free. Jay was recovering. Life was starting to get more normal. He was walking and things were looking pretty good. We made it through all of July and a good portion of August and then things got exciting again. I believe it was August 23 or 24 when things started going bad. We were out to dinner and a spot on Jay's ankle really started bugging him. He complained enough about the pain that I took him to the urgent care. The doctor decided it was an infection. He notified Jay's surgeon and Jay had an appointment to come in first thing the following week. He left the urgent care with some antibiotics. We put a hot compress on his sore when we got home. Then, I will spare you the details of what came of that. It was gross and a lot of nasty infection came out. He felt relief but he ended up with a hole in his leg.
The start of the next week I took Jay in to see the surgeon. It was determined at that time that they were going to open his incision back up to see what was going on. The doctor felt like it was the safest thing to do. So that Wednesday, August 28, I took Jay in and they did just that. They opened up the incision, flushed the whole thing, looked around really good, and closed him up. The doctor said they cleaned everything out good but that there was no sign of infection inside his leg. That was good to hear but a bit frustrating considering it set us back a little with Jay off his foot again. It was worth it though to make sure all was well.
So, drama number 2, dealt with and done. Infection should be resolved and we know there was no problem inside his leg. The best guess was the wound was caused by a stitch left in or just irritation from a stitch. All was well and we were back on the road to being done with this mess. We wish. . .
